Beautiful Nostalgia: Flapper Pictures and Posters

Flapper pictures show what it was like to be young during the Roaring Twenties.

The 1920s was a well-documented decade by photographers and artists.

F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote, "America was going on the greatest, gaudiest spree in history."

The many pictures reflect Fitzgerald's words: America was in the midst of its own revolution of youthfulness. Automobiles were everywhere, booze was plentiful (though illegal), the dresses were short, the music (jazz) was loud, and sex was in the air.

One of the most popular songs of the era went: "In the mean time, in between time, ain't we got fun."

This "in between" time was the most popular time for photographers to capture pictures of flappers doing their thing.

The boys were known as "sheiks" and the flapper girls as "shebas," and their are many pictures from colleges around the United States capturing the wild dance parties featuring the Jazz music so popular throughout the 1920s.
